When providing support to our staff the common practice is to remotely login to the workstation using
TightVNC.
TightVNC is an invaluable tool because it allows our support staff to quickly resolve issues at first point of contact without the need to leave their desks.
Since upgrading to Microsoft Office 2007 this have been major support issues due to the drastic change in the Office interface with the introduction of the Ribbon menu.
Additionally the new Microsoft Office Button was introduced to replace the standard File Menu button.
The Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint Options Dialog box has been relocated under the Microsoft Office Button.
Through Tight VNC you cannot click on the Microsoft Office Button which causes issue when our support staff need to get into the Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint Options Dialog Box.
The Work Around
We discovered that using the standard Microsoft Office 2003 keyboard shortcut brings up the Options Dialog box for Microsft Word, Excel & Powerpoint 2007 through VNC.
Keyboard Shortcut: Alt+T+O ( O for Orange)
Tip: You may need to hold onto Alt+T and press O several times.
